Troubleshooting Guides

Common API Issues

❌ 401 Unauthorized

Cause: Invalid or missing API key

Solution:

  • Verify your API key is correct and properly formatted
  • Ensure you're using the Authorization header: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
  • Check if your API key has been revoked or expired
  • Make sure you're using the correct environment (production vs. sandbox)

⚠️ 429 Rate Limited

Cause: Too many requests sent too quickly

Solution:

  • Implement exponential backoff retry logic
  • Check the Retry-After header for wait time
  • Consider upgrading your plan for higher rate limits
  • Use webhooks instead of polling for real-time updates

🔄 Messages Not Delivering

Common Causes:

  • Recipient's phone number format is incorrect
  • Recipient has blocked your WhatsApp Business number
  • WhatsApp Business API rate limits exceeded
  • Message content violates WhatsApp policies

Solution:

  • Verify phone number format includes country code (e.g., +1234567890)
  • Check message status using GET /messages/{message_id}
  • Review WhatsApp Business messaging policies
  • Ensure your template messages are approved

📎 Media Upload Failed

Common Causes:

  • File size exceeds 16MB limit
  • Unsupported file format
  • Network timeout during upload
  • Corrupted file

Solution:

  • Compress files to under 16MB
  • Use supported formats: JPG, PNG, MP4, PDF, etc.
  • Implement retry logic with exponential backoff
  • Validate file integrity before upload
